From the parking lot, follow the Blue Trail for about 15 minutes through the fields and into the woods. You’ll spot a bench where the Blue Trail splits in two and see a blue trail marker and number 105 on a tree to the right of the trail. Leaving the wider Blue Trail, turn right past number 105 to follow the narrower branch of the Blue Trail deeper into the woods. The trail becomes rocky and passes through an opening in an old stone wall.
Follow the trail downhill and bear to the left, looking for blue trail markers on the trees. After passing a grey house on the right, turn left to follow the trail downhill to the first of two bridges that takes you across a small stream.
After crossing the bridge, the trail becomes carpeted with pine cones as you enter a pine forest. You may notice an old stone wall bordering the trail on the right before you head downhill again to the second shorter bridge a few minutes later.
The pine forest continues until you reach the map kiosk at number 207 where the Blue Trail intersects the Red Trail before entering the back meadow. Turn left onto the Red Trail, being careful not to get tripped up by the many roots on the trail!
Keep an eye out on the left for a double red trail marker indicating a left turn ahead and number 227 (see photo). Turn left to follow the Red Trail downhill and then uphill again past some downed trees.
The trail continues downhill to the right and then leads through two halves of a fallen tree (see photo) before heading uphill again past a clearing of downed trees on the left.
You’ll soon come to a trail junction at number 226. As you turn left to continue on the Red Trail, you can see the back meadow again through the trees on your right. A little further on, bear left at the fork in the trail at number 223 to stay on the Red Trail. The trail becomes winding and rocky and you’ll see a large downed tree just to the right of the trail.
In about 10-15 minutes you’ll see a red trail marker and number 201 on a tree on the left where the Red Trail meets the Blue Trail again (see photo). As you turn left onto the Blue Trail, you may notice a small birdhouse on a tree on the right side of the trail. If you open the door of the birdhouse, you’ll find it’s actually a message box with small notebooks and pens inside where you can leave your impressions of the trail for other hikers to enjoy.
Follow the Blue Trail as it leads gently uphill through the woods past number 107 on the left where you can take short detour to check out the labyrinth, or continue on past the bench at number 105 out of the woods and back to the parking lot.
